You have probably heard the chatter about LED benefits for the skin. After extensive research, I decided to buy the Celluma in November 2023. I continue to be pleased with the healing benefits. I brought on the Omniluxes a few months later and they have been a hit, with myself included!
Our skin is a reflection of what is happening inside of our bodies. When we can provide support to our bodies in different ways, we get great results and true skin health. Topicals go a long way, and LED is a powerful tool to boost your homecare and improve your skin health at a cellular level.
Research has shown that phototherapy can: increase circulation, accelerate tissue repair, decrease wrinkles, decrease inflammation, improve skin tone and wrinkles, texture and clarity, ease muscle and joint pain, stiffness, spasm and arthritis and kill acne bacteria, and much more.
My clients are really liking the idea of LED because it is a noninvasive approach that combines great with other anti-aging or acne treatments. People tend to be very interested in the science behind it and it has gathered a lot of interest and questions. I like to explain it as biohacking.
The Science
Specific wavelengths of light energy, when properly absorbed, up-regulates compromised cells. The light energy is absorbed in the mitochondria and used to create adenosine triphosphate (ATP). The ATP stimulates various metabolic processes which can result in the repair and regeneration of cell and tissue components. In an article, “Therapeutic Light” - by Chukuku S. Enwemeka, PT, PhD, FACSM, he wrote “other reported mechanisms of light-induced beneficial effects include modulation of prostaglandin levels, alteration of somatosensory evoked potential and nerve conduction velocity, and hyperemia of treated tissues. The resultant clinical benefits include pain relief in conditions such as carpal tunnel syndrome, bursitis, tendonitis, ankle sprain, and temporomandibular joint dysfunction, shoulder and neck pain, arthritis, and post-herpetic neuralgia, as well as tissue repair in cases of diabetic ulcer, venous ulcer, mouth ulcer, fractures, tendon rupture, ligamentous, tear, torn cartilage, and nerve injury.”
The Celluma
30 minute treatment time
Can be used on any part of the body
Patented flexible panel for maximal exposure to skin. C-curve, S-curve
Celluma offers a variety of devices at varying price points from $300-$2000+. I use the Celluma Pro (pictured, blue) in the treatment room which delivers blue, red and near-infrared light energy simultaneously to safely treat a wide variety of conditions. The energy provided by Celluma is utilized by our cells to increase cellular metabolism. This results in the up-regulation of a variety of metabolic processes including increased blood flow/circulation, a decrease in inflammation, a decrease in pain and an increase in the cells that promote healing and tissue repair and regeneration. Celluma is a light energy device based on NASA researched light emitting diode (LED) technology.
Celluma LED devices are FDA cleared to treat the following conditions:
Full face wrinkles
Inflammatory acne vulgaris
Diminished local blood circulation
Muscle & joint stiffness
Muscle tissue tension
Muscle & joint pain
Muscle spasm
Arthritic pain
Cleared for Over-The-Counter use (note: this is known as OTC clearance and requires a higher level of both efficacy and safety data to be provided to and passed by the FDA)
Celluma is also CE Marked in the European Union (EU) as a Class IIa medical device for wound healing and was the first device of its kind to achieve such status.
The Omnilux:

Acne/Anti-Aging technology is separated...Clear vs Contour Masks

I wanted to offer my clients LED that they could use at home that was a little easier to incorporate into a daily routine. The Celluma was incredible for me and unexpectedly healed my injury that was occupying quite a lot of brain space daily. A daily 30 minutes on a clean, bare face while not able to do other activities (especially if treating the face), was not getting accomplished. Through trying to solve this kink for my clients I discovered the Omnilux. I have been so pleased with my own mask and have gotten great feedback from my clients. It comes with a dustbag which makes it easy to travel with. 10 minutes flies by, especially since you can multitask or read or be on your phone.
So, which is right for you?
The Celluma is for you if:
You have both acne and anti-aging concerns and would benefit from body LED
You are an athlete, prone to injury, have aches & pains, general body inflammation. It can wrapped around limbs and joints.
This device would be shared in a household for people with varying concerns
Remember, Celluma offers many models with varying price points and wavelengths. I offer a Celluma LED package of
3x30 minute treatments for any body area if you are considering purchasing a Celluma and want to try it out first.
The Omnilux is for you if:
You are focused on mainly acne OR anti-aging. The Omnilux Clear is blue for acne, the Contour is red for anti-aging.
You want something small, portable, and easy to incorporate into your daily skincare routine
You are focused on face and neck, less on body. Omnilux offers a decollete panel and a hand panel treating other body areas.
My thoughts:
Noticeable change in texture of neck and chest after around 5 sessions on the Celluma
FIXED my year-old finger injury! The Infrared Aches & Pains setting is probably my most used setting in the treatment room and something I didn't expect at all. I decided to stick my hand in during some of my face LED sessions. I did around 3 LED sessions specifically with Aches & Pains and my pain has gone from a consistent 7 or 8 out of 10 to a 2 out of 10 only pushed a certain way. This has been my favorite result. UPDATE: Now in May of 24, my right ring finger has no pain and feels the same as all of my other joints. No further sessions have been completed since the initial few that relieved the majority of my pain.
The patented flexible panel is ingenious and allows for maximal exposure in the treatment area. Especially great for Aches & Pains but good for other situations when we have to be creative in positioning a client for their treatment.
30 minutes can be a long treatment time and prohibitive for daily home use. Its bright and large and not easy to use phone or computer
The Celluma offers many models but generally they are a bit pricey for a home device
Omnilux is super easy to use and more convenient for daily home use for the face, in my opinion
10 minute treatment time while able to multitask makes it really easy to incorporate day or night
